High-Tech Concept Cars

BMW GINA Light Visionary Model
Announced: June 2008
High-tech applications: Changeable shape, fabric skin
The BMW GINA concept has a high-tech fabric skin stretched over a changeable structure. For instance, a rear spoiler deploys at high speed, but unlike other sports cars, the spoiler pokes up beneath a single, stretchable skin. Similarly, the BMW headlights are covered. When they are turned on, the skin peels back, almost like an eyelid. If additional cooling air is needed, the BMW kidney grille stretches to become larger. Instead of a hood, the engine compartment opens like a pea pod. GINA stands for Geometry and Functions In ‘N' Adaptations. Maybe it's a catchier acronym in German.
